How to Be Happy?

Assuming that you want to be happy I would like you to start by taking 3 deep breaths. Just do it, Now you are going to get yourself a piece of paper and a pen, if you don’t have a pen get yourself a pencil

Just get something, it doesn’t matter what it is. We will start with what it means to be truly happy and then slowly decide few habits & changes that you can make today to finally be happy

Everyone wants to be happy. Everything we do in our lives in one way or another, we do it to be happy but even after taking significant actions every day to satisfy ourself we still find it difficult to stay untroubled

Why is that the case? Why can’t we just be happy? The reason is life. Life is not rainbows and sunshine, it’s a tough & sometimes a harsh place to be. Living is painful. No matter how you look at it

There are a lot of things to do which you don’t want to do, rules to follow, and people to love, and sometimes you end up with uncompleted tasks, broken rules, people who don’t feel for you the same way you feel for them

And everyone around you will tell you to just be happy. Just keep repeating in your mind that you are happy when you clearly are not, Just act like you are in control when you have nothin in control. Just pretend that you are not sad when you are sad

I won’t tell you to not be sad! It’s like asking someone to not think about a white bear. But what I will ask you to do is accept that you have things in your life that you have no control over, people who don’t care about you, and life that sucks

There are a lot of things you can do daily to cheer yourself up but true happiness needs little bit more than that. A lot of people will tell you that you can be happy with what you have and that’s true but

If you are not daily taking actions to push yourself toward things that excite you (things that you really want to spend your whole life doing), then even in your happiest moments you will feel a little bit of emptiness. You will have a feeling that there is an empty space in you and that feeling will not let you live peacefully

Being excited every night for the next day to start is what happiness is all about. Living every moment of every day and then being excited for the next day to start. Don’t you wanna live like this?

Wanna know the way? It’s easy, go for things you want & desire in life while working on problems & things that are directly or indirectly making your life miserable

I know it’s quite difficult than it sounds but I am sure you have what it takes to make it happen. We are humans, Just like every other human you have potential to be great, will to achieve, & strength to endure

Here are a few steps you can utilize to live your life to the fullest & finally be happy

making notes

Step 1. Changes You Need

First thing you need to do is look at your life and think about everything you hate about your life, I mean everything from problems to people, and make a list about it

Here’s an example of how you can make your list (avoid making digital copy)

  1. I hate the fact that I skip my workout sessions
  2. I hate long-distance relationship
  3. I hate that I am prone to gaining weight
  4. I hate that I waste my time every day on my phone
  5. I hate that I always have to work
  6. I hate that I don’t have enough time to spend with my family

and the list goes on and on…

Now you are going to make two more lists using your first list. One of the lists will contain things that are in your control and others will contain things that are out of your control

For instance, The fact that I am prone to gaining weight is unchangeable but I can still avoid skipping my workout sessions

Now what you need to do is work on things that are in your control and let go of everything that is out of your control

Yes, it’s painful that a lot of things are not in your control but Let them go. Holding them on will only make your life miserable

Pro Tip: If You don’t like someone, the best thing you can do is avoid them at all costs. If the person you don’t like is your boss or someone with authority over you then work every day to free yourself from the clenches of that person

Step 2. Choices

Every day you will have a choice to sit and do nothing and endure the pain of nothingness or work on your goals, things that you like, things that you want

Life is painful. But what type of pain you have to suffer is optional. What type of sacrifice you are going to make is also your choice

You can sacrifice your time for a goal that you wish to achieve, use your energy at things you love or you can waste your time doing literally nothing

You can endure the pain of hard work or endure the pain of regret

Your choice!

Time will pass on. Taking action right now will make your future bright and filled with everything that you ever desired

Moreover, at the end of the day, the fact that you are one step closer to your goal will make you happy. You will no longer see yourself as someone who is just drifting through life but as a strong person who has total control over his/her life

Pro Tip: You don’t have to do everything every day. Just focus on one part of your life at a time

Step 3. Lifestyle Change

The first two steps are enough to get you back on track. Unless your lifestyle needs attention and people around you are negative, and your situation is desperately hopeless (In my case most of the time it is)

Yes, I understand, it’s not that you don’t want to act on your goals but it’s just that your life is too occupied with things, situation, and people that are making you miserable and emotionally drained. Even making it harder for you to move in the right direction

So, here are a few things you can do every day to get yourself back on track. These little things will surely have a huge positive impact on your emotional & physical well being

  1. Meditate for at least 10 minutes. Just sit there and focus on your breath. You will find it difficult to stay still at first but I am sure you will get used to it. (Recommended)
  2. Exercise every day. I understand that it’s quite difficult to exercise every single day but exercising even for 10 minutes will help you with your mood
  3. Hike at least ones a month. Hiking will help you in understanding nature & yourself. Moreover, it will help you in realizing that most of the problems you have are nothing in comparison to your potential. (Recommended)
  4. Sleep for at least 7 hours every day. A good night-sleep will surely serve you well. If you can, go to bed before 10:30 pm and wake up at 6:00 am every day
  5. Visit your childhood friends and family from time to time. (Recommended)
  6. Keep yourself cheerful by purposely avoiding things that are making you sad
  7. Watch funny videos, funny movies, comedy shows. (Recommended)
  8. Watch David Dobrik videos (Personal Recommendation)
  9. Join dance classes or start a new hobby

Step.4 No More Past

Stop thinking about your past. The past is no longer your concern. The future is also not your concern. Your concern is present. Let the future be handled by future you. Just keep your focus on the present moment

Live in the present moment. Stop forcing yourself to think about all those regretful memories. I know it’s not easy. I hate the fact that I am telling you not to think about memories or future problems when I know you can’t avoid them also but this is the only way to be happy

Ignorance is bliss

Constantly worrying about the future, regretting your past is enough to make any person depressed. You are no exception. The fact that your life is filled with problems is also something out of your control

But what you still have control over yourself, over your actions, and your future. Act now and change everything you want to change, be everything you want to be, move wherever you want to move and don’t look back

Step 5. What Matters is You

Thinking about your own happiness doesn’t make you selfish. It makes you human. Growing up I always though it’s bad if I think about my own happiness. Thinking about people around me should be my top priority

But after some time I realized that thinking about people around me all the time is making me empty from inside. As time passed by I begin to hate everyone. I was not happy and everyone around me doesn’t seem to care

This was making me hate them even more. A certain friend of mine helped me out in my time of difficulty ( She wasn’t even my friend more like a random stranger that I met by chance )

This is what I learned: If you are not happy, you can’t keep people around you happy. But If you are happy and satisfied yourself then you can help people around you

Work on your problem, don’t stop until you are satisfied with your life. Change everything you want to change about your life, about yourself and don’t hesitate from leaving people behind

Some people are negative, they are filled with negativity. Your thoughts, your opinion, your feelings They don’t care about that at all. What they do care about is themselves. Avoid them at all cost

If you need help in identifying these types of people in your life. Feel free to contact me. I will try my best! At the end of the day, that’s all I can do for you
