6 Best Teas to Lose Weight and Melt Belly Fat (2022)

After I force myself to get out of bed, the first thing I do is make a cup of tea while drinking water. Then I have my first cup of chai. I consume a cup during breakfast which is usually around noon time, in the afternoon, and evening.

This usually takes the total number to around four cups (I don’t think anyone should drink this much tea).

I am not sure how much weight I have lost due to drinking tea. However, according to experts, tea assists in weight loss if combined with a healthy lifestyle.

Moreover, depending on the type of tea you consume, it can boost your metabolism, reduce your appetite, enhance fat burning, enhance your athletic performance, inhibit the effect of enzymes that aid in digestion which reduces the rate of fat absorption, etc.

However, the prominent way I think tea has helped me in losing weight is by helping me avoid unhealthy food. Once I complete my tasks or I have free time, I usually spend it watching a youtube video and eating something I am going to regret.

With tea in the house, I usually just drink tea when I crave something to eat. It’s much easier since I don’t keep extra food at home (a lifestyle change to avoid binge eating). If I want something, I need to go out and get it.

You can look at it this way: If you have not planned what you are going to drink or eat when you are hungry, you are more likely to eat something you will regret.

Moreover, the benefits of tea are not limited to weight loss. A good cup of chai can boost your immune system, improve your concentration and mood, fight off inflammation, etc.

Here are some teas that can help you lose weight and melt belly fat:

Oolong Tea

1. Oolong Tea

Oolong tea is a traditional Chinese tea made from the Camellia sinensis plant. In oolong tea, the tea leaves are fermented longer than in green tea. Polyphenols present in oolong tea can boost metabolism and improve fat burning.

A cup of brewed Oolong tea contains 2.4 calories, 0 gm protein, 0 gm fat, and 0.36 gm carbs. Oolong tea also contains sodium, niacin, potassium, magnesium, and manganese.

study (2009) was conducted on 102 overweight Chinese women who drink Oolong tea. The study revealed that women who drank four cups of oolong tea daily lost an extra 2.2 pounds over six weeks.

Major components present in oolong tea:

  • Catechins

Green tea is loaded with polyphenols like flavonoids and catechins and contains a powerful antioxidant, Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG). Green tea also contains caffeine.

A study (2008) was conducted on 60 obese people. Participants were separated into two groups. Both groups followed a standardized diet for 12 weeks while regularly drinking either green tea or a placebo.

The study revealed that those who drank green tea lost 7.3 pounds (3.3 kg) more weight than the placebo group.
