Swami Vivekananda was a disciple of the 19th-century Indian mystic Ramakrishna.
In his life span of 31 years, He introduced Indian darsanas of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world, founded the Ramakrishna Mission at the monastery of Belur Math, contributed to the concept of nationalism in colonial India.
In 1893, He introduced Hinduism at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago. A newspaper account of his speech described him as “an orator by divine right and undoubtedly the greatest figure at the Parliament.”
